We’re Here for the Votes

“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country, and this world.” — Sharon Salzberg

Want more postcards? You can get them here.

It’s that time again. With the last presidential election, we started our own tradition of making fun postcards that make it easy to remind your friends and family to vote in our upcoming election. Four years ago, we did a postcard campaign that received a lot of positive feedback. So, we’re doing that again with some brand-new designs. It’s easy to do up voting postcards in our traditional red and blue colors, but we wanted to go a different route with ours. This year, our design takes inspiration from gardening and plants. Our CEO was inspired by this poem, Reading, bu A.R. Ammons:

It’s nice
after dinner
to walk down to the beach

and find
the biggest
thing on earth
relatively calm.

The draw here is that even when things feel chaotic in our human world, it’s nice to find stillness in nature. We love nature and aim to protect it. The cards are printed by Indigo Ink, a local commercial that prints with low eco-impact printing and a strong commitment to the community. They plant one tree for every tree used.

Then we paired these illustrations with a font that resembles hand-painted lettering, to symbolize leaving our mark. Because to us that’s what voting is, your opportunity to leave your own mark on how we shape this country and our path forward.

Why we think voting is important

“Your vote is your voice. Be heard.” — Unknown

There is a power and responsibility that comes with voting, and we love to find ways to inspire individuals to take part in the democratic process. Voting is the primary way citizens can influence government decisions and ensure that their views are represented. When you vote, you help choose leaders and policies that reflect your values and priorities. Voting also holds elected officials accountable. It’s a fundamental part of being an active citizen in a democracy. And it’s also a way to protect your rights and the rights of others. Through voting, citizens can advocate for laws and policies that promote justice, equality, and freedom. By voting, individuals participate in shaping their community and country, making it a vital part of a functioning and fair democratic system.

Are you registered to vote?

“Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it.” — Susan B. Anthony

Most people think that all the action takes place in November. And yes, November definitely has a lot of activity around voting. But, you should make sure you’re set up to vote way before then. One of our favorite resources for making sure we’re all set up to vote is I Will Vote. Find out if you are registered to vote based on where you live using I Will Vote’s database. And you can also figure out how you’re voting (in person, by mail, absentee ballot, etc). If you are voting in the US election while living abroad, you can request your ballot online through the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
