Last year, we participated in a project that is turning into an annual tradition in Baltimore. On Saturday, January 13th, between 2pm – 3pm, we will be meeting up at the Shot Tower (801 E Fayette Street, Baltimore, MD) to hang donated scarfs (store bought and homemade) along the fence for anyone who needs to stay warm this holiday season. This event is getting traction from all over the country. Here’s how you can participate:
First, join the event on Facebook for up to date details.
If you are local: Come join us on the 13th for a super positive event.
If you can’t make the event but want to donate scarves: You can mail them in or drop them off at one of these donation spots locally.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to make the scarves?
The scarves can be handmade or store-bought. You can knit, crochet, purchase, or donate as many scarves as your heart desires! All scarves are accepted, but wool is ideal just because it can stay warm when wet. 🙂
Can I donate gloves and hats too?
Yes, you can also donate hats and gloves to keep people warm! We’re focusing on scarves, but we’re absolutely not turning away donations. If you do send gloves, please consider connecting them with a string and safety pins so they are easier to hang on the posts/don’t get mismatched.
What about tags with positive messages?
Like last year, we want to add a tag to each scarf that has a positive message on it. Something like “You are loved”, “You are very beautiful”, etc. If you can make these yourself and attach it with a safety pin, that would be ideal!
How does the abandonment work?
We’ll be abandoning these scarves on January 13th at the park on the corner of President and Fayette Street where many homeless people sleep. It’s surrounded by a fence, which is a great opportunity for us to tie a bunch of scarves to the posts for people to take! (Use the Phoenix Shot Tower as a landmark to get to the park! It’s right across the street!)
If you do come the day of the installation, you want to get there as promptly as possible. People were taking the scarves off the posts as we were putting them up and we were done in like 20 minutes. So if you’re late, you’re going to miss the action. Be on time!
