This I consider to be the hardest part of my drive. It was divided up as a 2 day adventure with an overnight in Sioux Falls (if I could’ve pulled it off, I would’ve overnighted in Minneapolis but that would’ve been about 9 hours in one stretch on the road). One thing they don’t always tell you about driving long distances is that it can be physically draining. By days 4 and 5 I definitely felt it! I stopped a couple times at overlooks for pictures and walking around to stretch my legs, but other than that I felt more compelled than ever to just plow through.
The middle of our country, full of wonders and treasures I’m sure, is also quite flat. And not having many changes in scenery as I drove made the drive all the more difficult.
I couldn’t have been happier to meet my friends in Milwaukee around evening time, and then go out to eat and ultimately crash for the evening.
The bonus about stopping in Milwaukee is that Chicago is less than 2 hours from there, and I was already fantasizing about the short drive.
